Twelve South BookArc MacBook Stand
Twelve South packs some amazing, good-looking, and useful products under its umbrella. From the iconic BookBook case for iPad & iPhone to the very recent AirSnap Pro for AirPods Pro, we have tested a fair few. This time around, we put the brand’s very first & one of the most popular products to the test. Let’s check it out in more detail.
Product Highlights
BookArc is a compact vertical desktop stand that smartly minimizes the Macbook’s space requirement. With it, you get more desk space and an organized workstation. The stand is especially helpful for users who use MacBook in clamshell mode or Closed-Display Mode. You can project Mac’s screen on a bigger, external monitor, use an additional Keyboard or mouse to covert it into a full desktop setup. But when you do that, the space on your desk cramps up with all the gadgets and their cables. Here, the BookArc can greatly help by effectively docking your MacBook. You can securely hook your Mac, at one side, or tuck it behind you monitor to make the most of the available space.
Design
The latest iteration of Twelve South Book Arc sports an aluminum finish in silver & space gray color. The curved piece also has a shiny chamfered edge that perfectly complements the mirrored Apple logo on the newer MacBooks. Apart from great looks, the minimalistic yet smart curved design lends a comfortable, sturdy, compact & stylish nesting place for the MacBook. While designed for cushioning and strong grip, the silicon inserts also protect the Mac from scratches & scuff marks. Silicone pads are also placed on BookArc’s bottom to keep it from skidding or scratching your desk. Its feet are separated by a rectangular cutout, designed for cables to pass through. Additionally, this notch nicely holds the cord, keeping them from slipping off the desk.
Convenience
Having more space on your desk is a definite convenience, but the BookArc has more helpful and considerate features. For one the ease of access. When working on the desk safely dock the Mac & when its time to head out, simply unplug and move on. Interestingly, the BookArc’s cable catch will keep the cables in place, ready for plug-in when needed. And then there’s heat management. When placed flat on the desk, the MacBook could heat up and hinder your work. However, BookArc could help in proper heat dispersion. The Mac is standing vertically and lifted an inch or two into the air. Moreover, there are just two points of contact with the silicone insert. With plenty of space to circulate air, Macbook dissipates heat faster and doesn’t overheat.
Compatibility
BookArc is compatible with the range of MacBooks including:
13-inch MacBook Pro (USB-C, 2016-2019)15-inch MacBook Pro (USB-C, 2016-2019)13-inch MacBook Air (Retina, 2018-2019)16-inch MacBook Pro (USB-C, 2019)13-inch MacBook Pro (USB-C, 2020)13-inch MacBook Air (Retina, 2020)
The trick here is the silicone inserts, they can be easily replaced and updated as per your requirement. The box pack includes three different inserts that can hold all current Macbooks. In addition, you can also buy these inserts separately. So as and when Apple releases a different MacBook, a corresponding insert will be made available. And on the topic of compatibility, it’s doesn’t just hold Macbooks. You can dock any broad rectangular objects, including iPad mini, the iPad Air 2, Apple Wireless Keyboard, and even books.
Our Verdict
The Twelve South BookArc is a MacBook Stand that manages to do what it promises. And it does that with sturdiness, panache, effortlessness, compactness, and smartness. Everything from the chamfered-aluminum to silicone feet seems well-thought off elements. Even the packaging and the accompanied owner’s guide carry a minimalist sentiment. BookArc by Twelve South is a simple, unobtrusive design that blends in with your office, studio, or room setup quite easily. The best part, it does free up a lot of space on a desk!
